Rail Health Assessments - Diabetes

Overview of risks and health monitoring requirements for Diabetes within Rail Health Assessments

Updated over a year ago

If you are a category 1 rail safety worker, you will be requested to obtain a report from your treating doctor/s if the following applies:

  1. Diabetes treated with insulin.

  2. Diabetes treated with glucose-lowering agent other than insulin.

  3. Diabetes controlled by diet and exercise alone.

  4. An abnormal HBA1C result at the rail safety health assessment.

Once diagnosed with Diabetes, an Endocrinologist or GP report is required to ensure stability of the condition and compliance with treatment.

The Chief Medical Officer will request written reports from your Treating GP to address the following:

  1. Please organise an Endocrinologist review and report

  2. The date when this worker first consulted your practice.

  3. When was the condition first diagnosed (by you or elsewhere)?

  4. Any medications prescribed for the condition? (Please advise the dose and regime not just the identity of the medication)

  5. Over the last three months, do you consider the condition:

    1. Well controlled?

    2. Reasonably controlled?

    3. Sub-optimally control?

  6. Has a chronic health care plan been actioned for this worker? (If yes, please provide a copy)
