Understanding Candidate Health Risks

At KINNECT, we offer specialised services to evaluate pre-employment medical results, providing crucial insights into a candidate's health status. Our process is meticulously designed to ensure that each candidate is categorised accurately based on their health risks.

Categorisation of Candidates

When an organisation partners with KINNECT and has not customised their health risk standards, we categorise candidates into one of two categories: 'low risk' or 'safety critical'. Safety-critical workers are those whose roles involve tasks where a sudden loss of consciousness or similar medical incident could have serious consequences, potentially harming themselves or others, or result in material consequence to the business or its reputation.

Safety critical work

Refers to tasks, operations, or occupations where the consequences of errors, mistakes, or failures can result in significant harm to human life, property, or the environment. This type of work often involves high-risk environments or situations where safety measures and protocols are crucial to prevent accidents, injuries, or disasters. Or if an incident occurred, there is limited or delayed access to definitive care hindering the safety of the casualty or the responders. Safety critical work spans various industries, including but not limited to aviation, healthcare, construction, transportation, nuclear energy, and manufacturing. Examples of safety critical work include aircraft maintenance, surgery, control room operations in nuclear power plants, and handling hazardous materials.

Safety sensitive work

Refers to tasks, roles, or occupations where an individual's performance can significantly impact the safety of themselves, their colleagues, or the public. While not necessarily involving immediate danger like safety critical work, safety sensitive work often involves responsibilities or activities where impairment, distraction, or error could lead to accidents, injuries, or incidents. This can include operating heavy machinery, driving vehicles, handling hazardous materials, or managing critical infrastructure. If risk mitigation strategies fail.

Safety sensitive work typically requires individuals to be alert, focused, and capable of making quick and sound decisions to ensure the safety of themselves and others. Employers often implement specific policies and protocols, such as drug and alcohol testing, to mitigate risks associated with safety sensitive work environments.

Non-safety critical work

Refers to tasks, roles, or occupations where errors or failures, while potentially inconvenient or moderately costly, are unlikely to result in significant harm to human life, property, or the environment. These are activities that, if not performed optimally, might lead to inefficiency, financial loss, or inconvenience, but do not pose immediate threats to safety, health or business continuity. Non-safety critical work encompasses a broad range of responsibilities across various industries, such as administrative tasks, customer service roles, routine maintenance, and general office duties. While adherence to standards and quality is still important in non-safety critical work, the consequences of mistakes or failures are typically less severe compared to safety critical tasks.

Application of the Medical Matrix

To maintain consistency and reliability in our reporting, we overlay a medical matrix over the collected medical information. This matrix assists our doctors in interpreting and reporting on the medical results. It's a tool that ensures uniformity in the opinions provided to our clients and in the reports generated by our doctors.

Complex Cases and Clinical Judgement

In scenarios where a candidate presents with multiple risk factors, increasing their overall health risk, our KINNECT doctors utilise their clinical judgement and reasoning. This is crucial in determining the candidate's fitness for work, considering the individual's role, the nature of their work environment, and any hazards present.

Feedback and Review Process

We acknowledge that there may be instances where our initial assessments may need re-evaluation, particularly when new information about the individual's role or work environment becomes available. In such cases, we encourage organisations to provide feedback so we can reassess our previous opinions and reports. This could also lead to adjustments in the medical matrix applied, either for the specific case or future referrals.

Customising Medical and Functional Matrices with KINNECT

1. Consultation with Account Manager: Your journey begins with a meeting with your Account Manager to discuss your organisation's specific needs.

2. Default Matrix Presentation: You'll be introduced to our default medical and functional matrices to understand their capabilities.

3. Customisation: This step involves tailoring the default matrices to suit your organisation’s unique requirements, with guidance from your Account Manager.

4. Development and Integration: Post-customisation, our Carelever team develops these matrices to your specifications and integrates them into the Carelever platform.

5. Review and Confirmation: The process includes several review meetings to ensure the matrices accurately reflect your needs.

6. Completion: The entire process, from initial consultation to integration, typically spans 3 to 5 weeks, with KINNECT ensuring a smooth transition and successful implementation.

Costs

Using KINNECT's medical and functional matrix is complimentary for organisations requiring a single medical and one functional matrix. For more complex needs that require multiple matrices, there is a cost of $750 plus GST for each additional matrix.
