Should you or your employer pay for the further medical investigations requested by the AMA?

Updated over a week ago

The Queensland Coal Mine Workers Health Assessment Scheme is a government program in Queensland, aimed at protecting the health and safety of coal mine workers. Under this scheme, the costs associated with medical investigations and assessments are typically covered by the employer or the coal mine operator.

Here's how it generally works:

Employer Responsibility: The employer or coal mine operator is responsible for arranging and covering the costs of medical assessments and investigations required for their employees who work in coal mines. This includes:

  • Baseline CMWHS Medical

  • Periodic CMWHS Medical

  • Repeat standard spirometry.

  • Laboratory Spirometry

  • High Resolution CT Scans

  • Any repeat radiology investigations

  • Respiratory Physician Reviews

  • Initial GP and/or Specialist reviews

Any costs related to the ongoing treatment or management of a health condition, should be funded by the worker. Should they be entitled to compensation, then a Workers Compensation Claim should be lodged.
